ABOUT US

Animal Outreach of the Mother Lode is a low-cost, not-for-profit animal rescue group and spay/neuter clinic. Our mission is to reduce the number of cats euthanized in the area by proving low cost spay/neuter programs and education of the public. In an effort to protect the welfare of the animals we come in contact with, and to promote the humane treatment and well- being of these animals, we strive to:

  1. Provide shelter and medical care for stray or abandoned cats in El Dorado, Sacramento and Placer counties
  2. Respond with our personal commitment, humane sensitivity, compassion, and technical skill to the needs of these animals
  3. Actively promote suitable adoptions of the animals
  4. Encourage the spay and neutering of dogs and cats to ensure the numbers of unwanted animals be kept to a minimum
  5. Help to prevent cruelty to animals by promoting animal welfare legislation and education

Debra Webster, Barn Cat Coordinator, is a former journalist and college professor. She has worked to promote Animal Welfare for the past 10 years, including three years full time while living in Mexico. She and husband Alan Thompson worked initially with California Shar-pei Rescue where they developed the non-profit's original website and The Shar-Pei Forums. While in Mexico, the couple collaborated with fellow gringos to help raise funds for clinics and shelters, rescued dozens of street dogs and cats, and established Kitty Heaven, the Baja's only all-cat refuge.

Debra volunteered during several spay/neuter clinics held in Todos Santos, Baja California Sur. It only took her a few hours to figure out she was working with the wrong end. ...

Rosebud, a white terrier mix, was found wandering the streets of Todos Santos. She promptly fell asleep after a good meal and her first bath.
